I said a BRRR, it’s cold in here, there must be a…ok, ok, we’ll stop. But you get the point and the first part of that cheer is appropriate. Fall is nipping at our toes and reminding us that it will be winter, and oh so cold, all too soon. So say adios to the nip and cozy up your place with these simple “winterizing” ideas:
Outside: Kick off winter prep in an unexpected place, the exterior of your house. Remove all leaves, trim down plants and spruce up your front door with a fresh coat of paint.
Inside: Accessorize your living room and bedroom with cozy items. Add in updated pillows, window treatments and throws. Make sure that they are rich in texture and color to ensure a relaxing atmosphere through out your spaces. Need inspiration for a color palette? Check out our other post on fall infusion.
Outside/Inside: Insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your home. Use caulk to repair cracks around windows, doors and the exterior of your home. Check your attic floor, basement ceiling and garage for proper insulation. And don’t forget that pipes are vulnerable to harsh weather. But don’t fret, you can easily protect them with pipe foam from your local hardware store.
We’re a fan: Of ceiling fans. So don’t neglect them in the winter. If possible, change the setting of your ceiling fan so that it runs in reverse. This will force hot air down and into the rest of your room.
Fireplace-less? Make up for your place’s inadequacies with lots of candles. Nothing says warmth like a glow.
Now you’re all set to cuddle up on your sofa with a cup of coffee and a stocked DVR. Bring on the snow!
