The good news: your family will be celebrating the holidays at your house this year.
The bad news: YOUR FAMILY WILL BE CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS AT YOUR HOUSE THIS YEAR!!!!
Time to take a deep breath, pour a glass of wine and get to work!
This isn’t your average hosting job so you better get your house ready for mom’s white glove treatment. Give your house a thorough cleaning a few days before they arrive. Clean out your fridge. Mop your floors. Empty your laundry hamper. Scrub down your bathroom and sweep, vacuum and dust everything in sight. The day of their arrival, give everything a light touch up.
Once your house is nice and clean, conduct a sweep of your decor. Remove incriminating evidence of your less than angelic moments – start with photos and work all the way down to the silly gag gifts that you have laying around. Replace with family photos and things from your mom’s favorite home store.
If you have pets, make sure they are well-groomed.
Have fun and show your guests a good time. After all, this is family time! And even though you’re hosting, look on the bright side – you’re not the poor sucker who has to travel this year!
