DIY Glitter Wine Glass

We’re all ballin’ on a budget these days, especially with a bunch of gifts to give this month. Luckily, we have a helpful solution for you! Besides, what’s better than a homemade gift? Nothing. Ok, except money. And wine. Always wine.

Now, it may seem like a lot of items needed, but you’ll be able to make a lot of glasses from all the craft supplies listed here.

Here’s what you need:

Plain wine glasses
Modge podge
Paintbrush or paint sponge
Glitter color of your choice
Painters tape
Scrap paper
Rubbing alcohol
Paper towel

Step 1: Wipe down entire wine glass using the rubbing alcohol and paper towel. This is to ensure the glass is totally clean.

Step 2: Lay out your scrap paper and place all materials on top.

Step 3: Place painters tape about an inch away from rim of glass. This gets a little tricky, as the circular shape causes the tape to bunch up at the top. Make sure you get the bottom half of the tape as even as possible.

Step 4: Dip your paintbrush or paint sponge in the modge podge. If you’re using the paintbrush, do NOT paint with streaks. Instead, blot the brush. Blotting is better because it prevents striped patterns!

Paint sponges are a great use for this, but if you have brushes on hand use those. After you paint the bowl of the wine glass, go ahead and paint the foot.

NOTE: If you want to paint the stem, go for it. We found it to be easier and less messy to not paint it. But if glitter is your thing, we’re supportive of your decision.

Step 5: Now comes the fun part. Pour your glitter all over that wine glass. Make sure you cover it so all modge podged areas get some glitter action.

Step 6: Set the wine glass upright and allow the glitter to settle. Wait at least an hour before you make touch ups. Go easy on the modge podge or else you’ll get clumpy spots. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Step 7: If you’re completely satisfied with the looks of your wine glass after an hour of drying, remove the tape.

Step 8: Modge podge on top of the glitter. To make sure that no glitter falls off, make sure to cover the area a little above the glitter line. Let this dry overnight.

After a month of air drying, they will be top shelf dishwasher safe. However, in the mean time, wash by hand.

If you’re hesitant on dishwasher usage, stick with the hand washing. But whatever you do, DO NOT LET THE WINE GLASSES SOAK IN WATER.

There are many other ways you can make a glitter wine glass. You can paint only the stem, the bowl, the foot or all of it! You can even try patterns or modge podge a monogram or initial on there – the ideas are endless. We have faith you will make us proud.

Once you’ve completed your decorated glass and written careful instructions on how to care for the glass, you’re set to gift off! Even though we know you’ll want to keep it for yourself.

Feeling extra generous? Add in some candy, nail polish, a gift card, jewelry, or anything else your friends may like. The wine glass itself is an awesome gift! Happy holidays, Sipsters.
